I love looking at the bright photos and the food...mmmmmmm. Definitely not good for anyone considering cutting back on their food intake. All those delicious images make me want to hit the grocery store and spend the next few hours making a feast.

A website worthy of note is www.foodgawker.com it seriously is amazing. So I went and ordered one of their burger combos and it was good. Albeit, I was starving so I woofed the thing down like a crazed woman. The burgers are big too! My only qualms is that the burger patty was a bit too dry for my liking. Perks of eating there are that their meat are preservative free, no antibiotics, locally grown? and the crazy variety of toppings (25 varieties)! They have wasabi mayo and cajun onions. It took me forever to decide what I wanted on my burger and by the time I was done it was bursting. I love that they serve New York Fries with the burger and you also have the option of making your fries into a poutine. My qualms about this place is that it's super pricey. One combo with cheese came up to about $12.00 pretty pricey for a fast food operation. My boyfriend enjoyed his thoroughly and the staff were very nice. Can't beat good customer service!

My family wants to give this place a go and since I still have a few of those coupons left, we'll be checking it out together. I'll try to take some pics!mineraljunkiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14257249731879967392noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6319239545610167554.post-11683926751923959472010-04-07T17:49:00.000-07:002010-04-07T18:00:22.536-07:00Sun's Out!well, it was on Monday but not so much today or the remainder of the week. I typically wear my spf45 facial lotion but on days where its really hot (re:last Thursday during my rollerblading session!) I like to apply sunscreen first then a moisturizer. I bought the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Face Sunscreen SPF 60 (approx. $12.00) for those days when I will be spending more time outdoors. It's actually quite thick and takes a while to absorb into the skin. The consistency is slightly thick and there is no scent. I have not experienced any negative skin reactions to the product (combo skin) either. It is a poor base for makeup (I wear mineral makeup) so it makes the makeup look smeary - not good! When wearing this, I avoid wearing makeup, maybe just a little under eye concealer and that's it.

Back of the bottle:

Oil free abd PABA free, non-greasy feel
Waterproof, sweat proof
Gentle enough for sensitive skin
Fragrance free
Non comedogenic

*broad spectrum UVA/UVB

Overall, it sounds like a pretty sunscreen and it actually is. I'd say its only downfall would be that it makes for a poor base to apply makeup over! Perfect beach sunscreen though.

3 Stars!mineraljunkiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14257249731879967392noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6319239545610167554.post-461766549798108192010-03-11T08:26:00.000-08:002010-03-11T08:28:48.589-08:00Just recieved this email in my inbox and thought I'd share it for whoever may be interested in this promotion. I've been searching forever for jeans with a nice fit and a gorgeous dark wash, also something that would make my legs look super long! We all know that skinny jeans are horrible at that. Especially on my body shape, I have big thighs so it's typically a nightmare to find jeans that fit both my waist and thighs. I believed I solved my problems with Gap's Long and Lean. They fit nicely around the waist and aren't super tight around the thigh area.I love that you can dress them up and down depending on your shoes and top. I will definitely need to get them hemmed, they're too long even with heels on. How odd that CNY just happens to fall on the same day as Valentine's day. I know there's a lot of animosity towards v-day but I personally don't mind it. I've heard all of this before, that it is a consumerist holiday and a gimmicky day created by card companies and whatnot to get you to buy buy buy. For me, it's just an extra opportunity to get all cuddly and sweet with my significant other. This can be rebutted by those anti-vday folks who may say that I could do this any day of the year without a need for this 'holiday'. There's truth in those words but it really isn't that big of a deal. there are people that love the extra opportunity to celebrate a holiday, gimmick or not. Then there are those that see it as a chance to groge on chocloate and watch girly movies with their s.o. Regardless, it's all harmless fun.

Happy Valentine's Day (to all the non-haters =) )

&

Happy Chinese New Years to all the Asians out there!!

...off to dim sum now!

mineraljunkiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14257249731879967392noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6319239545610167554.post-84553850913242855292010-02-08T08:52:00.000-08:002010-02-08T08:54:16.495-08:00Crunch Time!
arghhhhhhhh, I have an exam in a few hours and I feel so under prepared. So what do I do? I spray one or two spritz of Bath and Body Work's Coconut Lime Verbena Body Splash. Those two spritz is enough to transform my messy room into an instant tropical island - of course not literally! *hopefully the scent is enough of a distraction from the mess* It's a really yummy scent with stronger undertones of coconut than lime. The lime however gives a burst of zest whereas the coconut provides a warmth overtone, very soothing.

I also use this on days when I don't feel like a strong perfume scent but rather something light and refreshing. The scent lingers for a couple hours.

The product retails approx. $11.00 cdn. for a 236ml bottle. I've had this since last winter ( I believe that's about a couple months after Bath and Body Works opened up CDN stores) and I'm not even halfway done.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I've noticed that I've yet to post my thoughts of the Herbal Essence shampoo that I recieved so I'll do a quick review. The shampoos in my opinion weren't anything amazing. I felt that the shampoo [all scents] were actually quite clumpy and would kind of ooze out of the opening. . The conditioners however were of a nice consistency. It left my hair feeling silky, oooh la la.
The promises of volume, balanced hair and extra moisture were lacking. I've noticed since that stores everywhere are selling them for very cheap, about $2.99 a bottle or sometimes with buy one get one free offers as well.mineraljunkiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14257249731879967392noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6319239545610167554.post-79669901160796312622010-02-05T20:32:00.000-08:002010-02-05T20:35:53.002-08:00Fish Candy
Camera Phone Pic
This is 100% random but check out these fish oil pills from T&T! Since I keep my makeup very simple - as in, most people don't think I'm wearing any - a splash of lip colour can enhance my overall look. I've been using the odd Lancome lip colours and a clinique lip palette, they're mainly berry shades. Anyways, enough with veering off topic, I am on a quest to find natural lip and mascara product as those seem to be my makeup staples. Might as well include that in my 'green' regime.
It's actually quite annoying and tedious trying to locate these products on the internet. This is mainly due to the excessive advertising websites that pop up in the search. I prefer to purchase my products based on reviews, ideally on beauty blogs. I like getting the perspective from an actual user and pictures don't hurt either! I know I've been slow on the picture uptake but my brother has taken my camera hostage so for the time being, my entries may be a little bland. =( I promise I'll make it up when I get more time on my hands and access to the camera.
I am still on my lipstick and mascara quest but I will post my findings, if I do find anyone that are to my liking. The positive reviews floating around in the beauty blogging world had me excited but boy, was it a disappointment. The color itself is actually quite nice but its the actually product that is a let down. I'm talking about the short wearing power and extreme dryness of the lipstick. Within minutes I can see the product is fading and it turns my lips into dried prunes [not a pretty sight]. I really wanted it to work so I would exfoliate and then moisturize with my Carmex lipbalm but really hasnt done much to improve the lipstick. Let's talk about the taste! It was packaged up in a brown cardboard box with a yellow Fedex label stuck on. I really was clueless as to what it was so with the package in hand I grabbed a knife and eagerly ripped it open. Guess what?!?! I was selected by Matchstick.ca to test out the new Herbal Essence Hydralicious products. I rarely ever get selected for this type of stuff so I was ecstatic. Inside the box contained 6 full size bottles of shampoo and conditioner wrapped up in cellophane, pink confetti and tied together with a pink ribbon. They also included some coupons to spread the word.
I am especially looking forward to trying out their featherweight shampoo and conditioner - I love big hair! Sadly, my hair ends up flat in 30minutes time despite my attempts. From the letter enclosed in the package, it is essentially shampoo and conditioner in a swirled mixture to evenly hydrate the hair. That's my interpretation of the letter. The products are sitting on my desk right now and I can smell it from my bed. Mmmmm, I will find some time to give these products a review once I get a chance to adequately test them out. For now....lets talk about my favorite product of all time. I use this every night and morning after I cleanse my face.
The product I'm talking about is: DISTILLED WITCH HAZEL
I have been using this routinely since last summer and I must say that this product is amazing. Witch Hazel is derived from a plant called Hamamelis Virginia Linne and can be used for a multitude of things. I mainly use it as an astringent (toner) and find that it is a gem for removing leftover makeup residue that your cleanser is unable to get rid of. This product also leaves my skin feeling refreshed and doesn't leave a tight feeling that I get from other toners. Initially, I was hesitant to use this product as I was unsure how the alcohol would react with my skin but I have yet to experience discomfort from using this product. No stinging! The only issue that I can foresee is that some people may be turned off by the smell. It reminds me of beef jerky but the smell disappears when the product dries which is just in seconds. Like with any toner, I like to apply my day or night cream right after applying the witchhazel to my face. I find that it keeps my skin feeling clean and moisturized for longer. Who knows, it could all be in my head! Another appeal to this product is that it is very cost effective and can be found in most drug stores. A 500ml bottle cost me about $8.00 and lasts for months. You can get the small 100ml bottles for about $2.00. As mentioned earlier, this product can also be used to treat bug bites, bruises, scrapes, etc.
Ingredients: Hamamelis Virginia Linne and Alcohol, Purified Water
mineraljunkiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14257249731879967392noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6319239545610167554.post-10879362543919710092009-02-16T15:38:00.000-08:002009-02-16T16:10:51.987-08:00It has been awhile!!!It's been forever since I've updated this blog but I'll do what I can today. Since the strike has ended, school has been non stop work. Like right now, I should be writing my essay but procrastination is kicked in full force. Research papers are such a pain to write.
Anyways, I recently purchased the Ly-Na pearl face cream after hearing the rave reviews about this product. I got it at an asian grocery store for about $4.00. This cream is supposedly amazing when it comes to evening out skin tone and ridding scars and spots as well as whitening. The product reviews were quite promising so I bought it. However, I did an even more indepth research today and found out that it supposedly contains mercury in it. EEEeeek! I did an academic search through Medline, and couldn't find any legitmate claims about it. I'm probably going to see what else I can find about about the product and if it does infact contain mercury then I will definitely being tossing it in the garbage. Sorry for the blurry pictures but I didn't feel like retaking new ones.
Balmy texture and smells like baby powder.
Ingredients:
Stearic Acid, Cetanol, Lanolin, Glyceryl, Monostearate, Isopropyl, Myristate, Sulfur
Net weight 10g Made in Tawian
More to come!!!
mineraljunkiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14257249731879967392noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6319239545610167554.post-625268219574089292008-07-01T22:45:00.000-07:002008-07-01T19:45:43.432-07:00Everyday Mineral Brushes and Clinique 3 Step SystemI apologize for taking forever to update my blog but I've just been caught up with some things. I've decided to split up my Everyday Minerals review into sections as it would take a while for me to give a full review of the products so I will start off with a review of their flat top brush and long handled kabuki brush. As well, I will review the Clinique 3-Step program for combination skin sometime in the winter.
Everyday Minerals Brushes: All their brushes are made out of synthetic hair
Long Handled Kabuki Brush ($10) - I use this brush to apply my blush and bronzer and so far, I have not experienced any problems with this brush. It is so amazingly soft and the bristles stay in place! I've washed it several times and everything has remained in tact. The physical appearance is aesthetically pleasing with a thick handle. The brush measures 4 inches in length which makes it easy for those of us constantly on the go.
Flat Top Brush ($10) - I use this brush to apply my foundation and it is a dream to work with. It allows for an even application and the uber soft bristles feel so good against the skin. This brush looks exactly the same as the long handled kabuki brushes except for the bristles which is cut straight across whereas the bristles on the kabuki is curved.
Everyday Minerals make some really amazing brushes so it is definitely worth a try. From my experience with this brush, I have no had any issues with shedding and it is just so SOFT! The price of the brushes are very reasonable as well but for those looking for a bang for their buck then I would definitely recommend getting the Personal Custom Kit for $34.00. You can choose any 6 full sized items from their website which amounts to a measly $5.66 for each item. That is much cheaper than any product from the drugstore and their products last for a very long time.
Shop: www.everydayminerals.com
Tip: I recommend washing your makeup brushes weekly to avoid any potential skin breakouts. The oils that you transfer from you face to your brush can make your brushes quite dirty especially if you are a regular makeup user. I use facial cleanser to wash my makeup brushes and I lay them to air dry overnight.
Clinique 3-Step Program for Combination Skin (2): Liquid Facial Soap, Clarifying Lotion, and Dramatically Different Lotion
I used this product for 2-3 days and I returned it. I was really looking to forward to trying out the product and I wish I had not. This product was a complete nightmare for my skin. The first day I used it, my skin became extremely inflamed and started to burn after the first 2 steps! Initially, I thought it may have been my Everyday Minerals makeup since I tested both products out on the same day but EM was definitely not the culprit. I avoided using their moisturizer and just applied some Nivea onto my skin to soothe it. The following day, I decided to give it another go and skipped the second step which was the clarifying lotion (toner, I suspect that it had alcohol in it) and parts of my skin ended up feeling like sand paper. I just assumed that it was the cold weather drying out my skin but little did I know that it was Clinique's so-called solution for better skin. I started to break out after the second usage but I decided to give it another go. I used all 3 products and I was on the verge of tears. My skin was blistering red and it was burning. On top of that, my skin was flaking. I needed a moisturizer badly so I kept on applying Clinique's dramatically different lotion. That just made things worst and my skin kept on getting more dried out. It finally dawned on me that Clinique was the source of my skin woes so I washed everything off with good old Cetaphil and applied cold cream to my skin. My skin still burned but it was gradually easing off. I promptly returned the products and was refunded my $80.00. I have heard other people with positive experiences with Clinqiue but for myself, it was horrible. I don't ever see myself using this product again. In a span of 3 days, my skin was at its all time worst.
I hope everyone is having a good summer so far! :)
mineraljunkiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14257249731879967392noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6319239545610167554.post-45365924597329969012008-06-05T19:00:00.000-07:002008-07-01T19:45:54.472-07:00Drugstore GoodiesI went to the drug store with my mother the past weekend and I picked up a couple eyeshadows from Quo. They both come in cute compact containers and were pretty cheap. One was a regular pressed eyeshadow while the other was a loose mineral powder.
Eye Shadow in Petal (2grams): This is a matte shadow in a soft pink shade. It goes on very faint and works well as a base for you eyeshadow or highlighter. I would recommend this for everyday wear.
Mineral Eye Shadow in Russet (1.5grams): This is a nice copper brown colour with quite a bit of shimmer which may be better suited for a nighttime look. It is actually quite nice and I am looking forward to using it as an eyeliner. I would apply it wet to bring out the colour. However, Quo is not the best for mineral makeup as it contains more ingredients that I would like it to. I prefer Everyday Minerals by far!
This is totally off topic but I bought another bikini for the summer season! I am so sick of this dreary weather. I can't wait for sun to come out!
Check back for my upcoming reviews on my favorite makeup company: Everyday Minerals! =)mineraljunkiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14257249731879967392noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6319239545610167554.post-11894374472111615992008-05-31T16:30:00.000-07:002008-07-01T19:16:46.910-07:00Intro and E.L.F Review
Hi there!
This is my first time blogging so please be kind! Haha I am by no means a makeup expert or makeup professional. I'm a university student that has just developed a great interest towards makeup and a love for recieving goodies in the mail! My recent addiction to online shopping, makeup specifically, has lead me here. Personally, I find that reading online reviews really helps me with my purchase decision so I decided to join the bandwagon of makeup bloggers! Enjoy
E.L.F Review - Brushes and Lipglosses
Over the past year, I have become extremely conscious of what goes on my skin so the only products that I felt comfortable using from E.L.F were their lipglosses and makeup brushes. For those of you unfamiliar with E.L.F products, 90% of their products are priced at $1.00! You can save even more with their special discount codes that you can easily find online.
1.Total Face Brush: This brush is absolute garbage! I cringe just thinking of this brush touching my face. It sheds a lot leaving the bristles all over my face and it is so rough. If you can help it, just put that dollar towards something softer.
2.Bronzing Brush: The bristles on the brush surprising picks up the colour from my blushes well but once again it is very rough against the skin.
3.Foundation Brush: I havent had much opportunity to use this brush but just from sweeping the bristles acorss my face I like it. It is very soft and probably one of E.L.F's better face brushes.
4.Eyeliner Brush: This is actually my first eyeliner brush. I usually use the pencil liners but I like this for what its worth. It's quite soft and doesn't tug at the skin but stiff enough to line the eyes.
5.Concealer Brush: This brush is much too small to actually use as a concealer brush. I tried using it a few times but it took way to long to cover blemishes and don't even consider using it to cover underye circles! It will take half the day instead I use this brush as an eyeliner brush and I find that it works much better.
6.Defining Eye Brush: This brush is okay nothing too special. It's nice to have extra eye brushes around. The bristles are soft and for a dollar, it's a good product.
7.Eye Shadow Brush: After reading the raves about this brush I decided to order two and boy, do I wish I bought more. This is actually my favorite brush from E.L.F. This brush is super soft and I use it one on my eyes and the other as a concealer brush. I love love it! If you plan on buying anything from E.L.F I suggest you stock up on this.
~~~~~

8.Candy Shop Lip Gloss - Melon Mayhem: The lipgloss is packaged in a tin of about 3 inches in length. Some might find this a bit big for travel. I was really looking forward to this but when I opened it and saw the glitter in the gloss, I was less than pleased. It has a distinctly plastic smell to it as well. The colour is very sheer which I like but the glitter makes it look extremly teenerbopperish so personally, this is not the gloss for me.

Super Shiny Lip Shine SPF 15 : I love that this gloss has SPF so I bought 3 of them. =) The glosses glide nicely on the lips and stay on for a couple hours. They do a pretty decent job of keeping the lips moisturized but I usually apply Carmax before I put anything on my lips. This product smells like the grape flavoured Tynenol pills that I was given to as a child! I'm a big fan of this product and would definitly recommend it.

9.Pink Kiss: This reminds me of a Barbie Pink which is a definite no go for me. For those of you that are looking for a pale pink gloss then this is the lipgloss for you.

10.Goddess: This is actually my favorite of the three. The colour is actually much darker than they swatch they show on the website. It's a nice mauve colour with a metallic sheen to it. My description probably isn't doing much justice to the product but I would definitely recommend this product.

11.Malt Shake: The colour of the gloss is once again much darker than the website swatch. It looks more like a dark berry which is actually quite nice.

12.Hypershine Gloss - Vixen: Just as the name suggests, this gloss is very shiny. I make sure to use a very small amount whenever I apply the product. The colour in the container is a vibrant, almost hot pink, but when applied onto the lips, it leaves a nice pinkish tint. It also smells like coconut, Mmmm! Use this product sparingly or else you will risk looking like an overglossed teeny bopper.

F.Y.I: In regards to shipping to Canada, it cost me about $15.00 in shippings fees and the products took about 3 weeks to arrive! So be prepared to wait. There are also custom fees to worry about if your order is over $20.00 before the shipping charges are applied.

You can purchase their products on their website: http://www.eyeslipsface.com/

mineraljunkiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14257249731879967392noreply@blogger.com2
